Chemtec Provides Customized Blending and Loadrack Systems

Does anyone remember when the average terminal handled only a few grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, and a few additives? By contrast, today’s petroleum markets are demanding an ever-increasing number of custom fuels, and terminal operators are finding that many of these fuels need to be blended at their facilities. To further complicate matters, many of the new fuel blends also require the addition of one or more performance additives. As a result, terminal operators are often ill-equipped to deal with the complex blending and additization requirements of today’s fuels.

Chemtec Ethanol Skids being prepared for Delivery

Chemtec Energy Services, Inc., located in Willis, Texas, provides complete "turnkey" design, fabrication, assembly, installation, and testing of systems for blending and additive/dye injection. Milton Page, President of Chemtec, recently explained how Chemtec has transformed from a manufacturer of additive and dye injectors into a full-scale production facility for blending systems. “Chemtec has always built skids for our additive and dye injectors”, Mr. Page stated. “These skids typically include pumps/motors, a tank, and all associated piping and electrical connections. Many of our customers who purchased these skids began asking us to build other systems for them including Cetane, ethyl mercaptan, and Biodiesel systems. Now that ethanol-based products are in demand, these same customers are asking Chemtec to design and build their ethanol blending systems.”

While Chemtec may be best known for building custom systems, some terminal operators either don’t have the time or the desire to work through the design process. For those customers, Chemtec offers standard designs for a number of blending applications including ethanol and Biodiesel blending. Each blender is pre-engineered and designed to provide the user with a prefabricated, complete, stand-alone solution for blending. Standard blender designs provide for 1-4 streams and may be fabricated in the vertical or horizontal plane. Blend control may be provided by the Chemtec MicroPAC blend controller or with a customer specified controller.

Chemtec Ethanol Blender Options:

- vertical or Horizontal Footprint
- 1 to 4 blend streams
- Galvanized, painted or powder coated
- PD Meter or Turbine Meter
- Control Valve Options Include:
- Electric Motor Operated,
- Electro-Hydraulic
- Hydraulic Operated
- Air Operated,
- Hydraulic-Pack Operated

Demand for blending systems is also growing outside the United States, and many of the skids that Chemtec builds today are headed for international destinations. “Most of our international customers have specific design requirements”, said Page, “so they will not accept a generic one-size-fits-all system”. Chemtec is able to provide these customers with the flexibility to build a completely custom-designed and custom-built system. Page added, “All Chemtec skids are designed, fabricated, assembled, and tested at Chemtec’s production facility by Chemtec employees; nothing is “farmed out” to third-party sub-contractors, so our customers can have a custom system in roughly the same time frame as other companies’ generic systems.”

Chemtec’s international business has grown so much that Chemtec is establishing an extensive international distribution network for its products. Gary Williams, Chemtec’s CEO and Mr. Page have been working to formalize agreements with a number of companies that specialize in the petroleum industry. Mr. Williams noted, “Within the next twelve months, Chemtec will have a distribution network for our products that will cover most of the world.”

Chemtec Energy Services, Inc., headquartered in Willis, Texas, is a major manufacturer and world-wide supplier of specialty equipment for the petroleum terminaling industry and the petrochemical industry. Chemtec equipment is used by most of the major oil companies as well as a number of independent terminaling companies. Chemtec’s additive and dye injection systems are well-known for their reliable performance and accuracy. Chemtec also provides turn-key solutions (systems design, Project Management, installation, and technical support) for many of the products it manufactures.
